Rihanna plea for leukaemia girl

Post  Scarlet on Fri Feb 27, 2009 6:20 am

SINGER Rihanna is helping a five-year-old New York girl find a bone marrow donor.
The Disturbia singer was touched by the plight of leukaemia victim Jasmina Amena.

Rihanna, 20, said: “When I saw her video, it broke my heart.

“It is so unfair that for a black patient it is so much harder to find a bone marrow match.”

Thea Amena, who adopted Jasmina at three days old, is “over the moon” the star is calling for more marrow donors.

It is the second time in a year Grammy winner Rihanna has helped a leukaemia sufferer.

She made an appeal a year ago for a donor on behalf of New York woman Lisa Flynn.

Katharina Harf, of marrow donor centre DKMS which is helping to find a match for Jasmina, said: “Rihanna loves children.”

The girl has had chemo and has been in hospital in NY since January 20.

She said of Rihanna’s help: “I’m so excited.”
